Then we heard a gurgling sound underneath, and the steady rising of scalding water from the vent. Within seconds water inexorably shot a hundred feet vertically up. Our gaze followed as we fought the bitter cold. Two minutes whizzed by, as we were lost in the moment. There was a clap and then another until everybody cheered in unison. The wonder and excitement we felt was palpable. You could almost touch it from everyone on that platform.
